First 1000 Days

The first 1,000 days refers to a child’s life from the moment they are conceived until they reach 2 years of age (24 months). This is a time when their brain, body and immune system grows and develops significantly.

The first 270 days encompass pregnancy. Adequate nutrition during this time is essential for the healthy development of the fetus. Proper intake of essential nutrients, including folic acid, iron, calcium, and omega-3 fatty acids, is vital for the growth of the baby and the overall health of the mother.

  • At 2 Months Calms down when spoken to or picked up. Seem happy to see you when you walk up to them, and they smile when you talk or smile at them.They watch you as you move and they make sounds other than crying.*
  • At 4 Months  Make sounds back when you talk to them, and they turn their head towards the sound of your voice,
    look at their hands with interest, hold a toy when you put it in their hand and they also bring it to their mouth.*

  • At 6 Months Puts things in their mouth to explore, reaches to grab a toy they want, close lips to show they don’t want more food. Rolls from tummy to back, they also recognize familiar people.*
  • At 9 Months Show several facial expressions, like happy, sad, angry, and surprised. Look when you call their name, they also react when you leave (looks, reaches for you, or cries). Start to make a lot of different sounds like “mamamama” and “bababababa”. Enjoy banging two things together. They also get to a sitting position by themselves.*

  • At 2 years Points to things in a book when you ask, like “Where is the bear?” .Says at least two words together, like “More milk” .Eats with a spoon.Tries to use switches, knobs, or buttons on a toy. Runs. Kicks a ball.*
